mmmmmmmmmmmmmm... brains.
so everybody loves a good zombie movie.... well... everyone who doesn't get scared or grossed out by people biting chunks of other peoples necks or trying to eat their brains... but this blog isn't for THOSE people.. those weird, strange, unusual people.... it's for the rad, awesome, fun, cool people like ME who LOVE zombie movies!
I love them SO much... that I'm willing to review my top 5 zombie movies... just for you! Yes, I'm taking time out of my busy schedule to do something nice for you. You can thank me now. It's ok, I'll wait.
....
....
ok.... so onto the list... now this list is in NO particular order. Partly cuz I'm indecisive... and partly cuz I'm lazy as fuck and can't be bothered to add that one tiny detail.
This movie is simply classic .. it embodies all the greatness that is zombie movies. Gore, violence and a high death ratio.... all of which this movie has in spades. It's before the days of super special effects.... so everything in the movie had to be done the hard way... which IMO makes it more impressive. It also is just teeming with zombie apocalypse tips.... one of which includes... if you're going to find a place to barricade yourself.. make sure it doesn't have glass doors. I mean.. you could if you really want to ... but I'm guessing if that's the case.. you probably also want to have your brains eaten... so well... you're on your own.
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
I know you're probably thinking this movie doesn't really count as a true zombie flick .. but in all reality.. it has all the classic zombie key points.. blood, gore... and it also has laughter.. so in my mind, that makes it awesome. Does it get any better than laughing at zombies getting hit with flying records? I really don't think so. As with Dawn of the Dead it also has tips for avoiding the brain sucking hordes. For example... if you don't want to suddenly have a hankering for yummy, yummy flesh and brains.. you might consider NOT turning on the jukebox while holding out at the pub... even if it DID make one of the most awesome zombie fighting scenes in all history! (or just in my mind)... and I don't just say that because I featured it on one of my first blogs.. (here's a link in case you want to watch and cuz I want to whore myself out further)
While we're speaking of funny zombie flicks.... you can't disregard Zombieland. This came out of the works very recently and quickly scaled the ranks of my favorite zombie flicks. Part of that comes from the little "rules" that the main character throws out throughout the film. Which are all useful rules if in fact the world DOES transform into a post apocalyptic zombie nightmare. If you haven't seen it .. some of those tips include, "always double tap" and "keep up your cardio"... both of which make total fucking sense. OH... and if you haven't seen this movie... go.. right now... no seriously... right fucking now.. go and rent it/netflix it/download it/steal it from your
This is the movie that made me fall in love with zombie movies.. and horror movies in general. I remember watching it near halloween at a friends house who had Super Channel. We were too poor to have super channel (or rather my dad was extremely frugal) and so any movies I watched were usually at other peoples houses. This friend of mine and I had an absolute LOVE for all things horror and zombie in particular after this movie. It's just awesome.. and it really just the essential classic zombie flick.
Being as this series is based on a video game... you'd think it would be much more campy and goofy.. at least if other movies from video games give any precedent... but it's really not. It's got some really great fight scenes.. great characters and some good gore. I love the part where the guy gets cut by the lasers in the first movie and falls into a bunch of pieces... plus the creepy digital girl. After the third movie, I really didn't think there was anywhere to go with it.. thinking it had run its course, but I think Afterlife did a good job of reviving the series and even though I didn't see it in 3D it seems like it would have been awesome with huge hammers flying out at the audience. This series also has some good tips for surviving life after zombies.. though a lot of it kind of hankers on having your own kick ass zombie fighter chick who always manages to look sexy no matter what she's doing......... and well.. if you have someone like that in your life, then great.. fight on! If you're like the rest of us .. you're probably better off to avoid fighting unless you absolutely have to.
Thanks again to Motherhood Truth for the Zombie Tuesday blog hop!
LOVE the list!! Great idea to review the movies!!! AHAHAHAHAHA Zombie strippers...I saw that on Netflix and me and my friend were too scared, and the innocent kids asked if they could watch it..the just saw the zombie part...Umm NO! Thank you for linking up with zombie Tuesday!!!
ReplyDeleteYay!! I can finally comment on your blog! Look, I'm going to do it again!
ReplyDeleteI too love Shaun of the Dead :)
ReplyDeleteI loved Zombieland...Although I think it mainly has to do with a slight obsession with Woody Harrelson though…
ReplyDeleteOkay, here's the deal... in the Dawn of the Dead remake, that chick Mikai Phiffer is banging gives birth to a zombie baby and they should it in the head. I am HIGHLY against this, and here's why:
ReplyDeleteThe baby zombie is harmless. If they spread by biting and by scratching, you could just tape over it's mouth (because it doesn't need to breathe) as well as it's nails and the thing is harmless. Then, you could either a) study it to figure out why it's a zombie or b) raise it to further zombie human relations.
I should write a blog post on this.
I freakin' LOVED Shaun of the Dead. It had my favorite guy from the BBC version of The Office, (after Ricky Gervais, of course), and it was incredibly dry in it's humor, which I LOVE. Awesome post, and thanks for putting me on your blogroll, I always get excited when I see that I'm on a blogroll. Yay blogroll!
ReplyDeleteIf you like Shaun of the Dead (one of my faves), you'll like Hot Fuzz, have you seen that?
ReplyDeleteComment love day http://www.mummybrain.com
I own a dvd double disc of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.... cuz I'm rad like that.
